MPAA: Stupid *and* hypocritical

A while ago, many sites in the blogosphere made fun of Lucky and Flo: two black Labs trained to sniff out 'illegal' DVDs. Much fun was made of the fact that they couldn't tell 'legal' and 'illegal' DVDs apart.

And now? Nothing's changed, except that Lucky and Flo are going on a 'world tour' to menace carriers of legitimate optical polycarbonate disks. Am I the only one who thinks a couple of dogs aren't going to make a dent in the counterfeit DVD smuggling ring? Probably not, especially when they can't tell the counterfeit and the real apart so easily. They may very well have been trained to detect shoe bombs by detecting shoes.

There's a good article running at PC World about how the MPAA has partnered with a site called GUBA.com, which offers illegal downloads of their copyrighted content, and the MPAA has deliberately chosen to turn a blind eye, all the while happily bringing suit against torrent sites.
