The Catholic Church: Is it any help in the fight against AIDS in Africa?

Despite the fact that in the next decade half the African population could have HIV/AIDS, the Catholic church still opposes distribution of condoms.

I thought they were supposed to be compassionate. I guess this must be the 'we must kill them to save them' religious thing again.

The main problem with educating for abstinence instead of any other sex ed is that people are going to have sex. Either you accept this simple fact or you will be unable to solve the real problem.

Whatever happend to 'thou shalt not kill'??? The fool catholics, who have considerable influence as to African aid, are holding back a simple, cheap, cost-effective mechanism for preventing millions and millions of deaths that will make Hitler's final solution look like a walk through the park.

I invoke Godwin's Law. It's done.

Well, I had to look up that Godwin's Law thing... and from what I read, by purposefully invoking it the invocation automatically fails...

Jonny Stew did some good stuff on the whole Hitler comparison thing on a relatively recent Daily Show. Classic stuff. From what I can tell, the Godwin thing doesn't apply so well to politics, unfortunately...
