Book Obsolescence

It's not just computers that are rapidly becoming obsolete. Quite a few books are following this route. Three books I've bought recently have come out with new editions:

  • Freakonomics
  • The World is Flat
  • Wikinomics

After buying Freakonomics, the next *month* there was a new edition. O'Reilly offers a discount if you mail in the cover of the old edition... maybe this is something that other publishers should consider.

I don't feel so bad about The World is Flat because I got it cheap and second-hand: I may even buy v3 (Pictured above) since it's so inexpensive.

In the case of Wikinomics I guess I should have figured there'd be an updated version soon given the topic of the book.
