Why I dumped Domainsatcost.ca
I've been slowly moving all of my registered domains away from domainsatcost.ca over the past year. Why? There are several reasons:
- Irony poisoning: $13.45 is not 'at cost' by any means. 10dollar.ca is cheaper, less annoying, and has a better interface
- Big Irritations: you can't register a domain name for more than a year at a time. Whenever you perform any transaction, you get a 50 cent fee added to the total for the 'privilege' of using your credit card. Um, why?
- Continuous Irritations: 10dollar.ca does not email me every day (sometimes multiple times per day) for the entire 75-day span before a domain expires.
Lesson learned: Irritate the crap out of your customers and having overpriced commodity services, and they will leave. Seeing a hundred emails or more over the span of two months for a single domain would drive any reasonable person mad.

I'd strongly suggest GoDaddy. They're not out to screw you (ala domainsatcost.ca) and if you can avoid the barrage of offers when you sign up for anything, you can nab domains for 6.95 US. You'll have to Google around for coupon codes.
Out to screw me? I can in no way recommend GoDaddy. If not for their annoying, sexist ads or their overpriced, obnoxious hosting packages, but from their tendency to steal domain names from their own customers (Google it!), or suspend a registration at the drop of a hat without a court order. That's not the kind of registrar you want to have.
Also, GoDaddy does not register .ca names. This is a big impediment when choosing a registrar: it excludes a lot of them. Meh.
